Mayuri’s MakeOver | Androgeny

Here it is!

I am finally publishing this much awaited, and our very first post for the Make-Over section and I am excited! I believe the wait was worth it and hope you’d like it too.

Our first Model/Client is Mayuri Murthy, from Bangalore. This gorgeous works as an Optimisation Strategist with Yahoo and loves shopping and partying. In her spare time, she binge watches movies and TV shows. We had a small fun questionnaire session with her and this is what she has to say about herself . So, let’s get to know her a little more before we jump into her make-over, shall we?

  1. What does a day in your life look like?

        –  My day starts at 11 am, I get up, spend some time with my family, get ready   for work and leave at around 2:45 pm. 12 am I am back home again. Weekends I am mostly out with my friends. We go for brunches, clubbing, pub-hopping or get-togethers.

  1. How would you describe your personal style?

       – I would say minimalistic. I try to keep up with the current trends but don’t really go over-board with anything. I love wearing maxi dresses, flowy skirts and gowns.

  1. One favourite item that you posses in your wardrobe currently?

       – My Zara jeggings, they are comfortable, the fit is amazing and I can wear them with right about anything. It’s my go-to clothing item.

  1. One thing you are good at?

        – Sleeping. I can sleep anywhere, anytime, anyhow!

  1. If there is one thing you would like to change about yourself, what would that be?

       – I love myself. But yes, I do wish I was taller. (Laughs)

  1. Name one person you think deserves a Make-Over and why?

      – I would say my mother. She is a hard-working woman, when she is not at  work she is busy taking care of the family. Amidst everything she barely gets time to take care of herself. I would love for her to get a make-over. It’d be a fresh change for her.

The Inspiration:

Since Mayuri loves her maxi skirts and gowns so much, I thought of giving her a Make-Over contrary to her personality. So the theme I chose for her is Androgeny.

The word Androgyny is derived from ancient greek where andro means man and gyné means woman. In brief, a person portraying both masculine and feminine characteristics. In fashion, an androgynous person is someone who believes in sexual liberation, breaking the stereotypical clothing norms and in the freedom of deciding what to wear and what not to wear regardless of his or her gender. A woman in a tux at a wedding or a man wearing a ruffled shirt with make-up on. Well, why not?? It’s all about expressing yourself and whatever you are comfortable in.

Thanks to legends like Coco-Chanel who started the revolution by emancipating women from heavy gowns, implementing trousers and other men-like clothing and Elvis Presley and Mick Jagger who encouraged men to get rid of their usual shirts and trousers, wear clothes out of the ordinary and dare to wear make up.

About the look:

Look 1. THE FROLIC

For the first look, The Frolic. I wanted to portray a young, carefree, cheerful tomboy. Someone who loves being outdoors, is adventurous and loves sports. Music is the first thing on her mind as soon as she wakes up and she plays her stereo as loud as she can, without caring about getting into the neighbours good books!

This look reminds me of my younger days, when all I did was listen to music all day and was the only girl in my friends circle. But no, you wouldn’t want to see my pictures back from the days, trust me on this!

Look 2. THE ARTIST

She is a dreamer and a creator. The world through her eyes is different from yours and mine. Her life is a synonym of simplicity and she sees beauty and goodness in everyone, drawing inspiration from everything around her.

Look 3. THE CHIEFTAIN

This look is all about power dressing, with a strong hint of dandyism. A woman rising against all odds. She is dauntless, fierce and she is out to conquer the world. She is invincible.
